Green Man Festival Commission Criteria 2026

Call for Artists: Contemporary Circus Commission
Citrus Arts is offering a commissioned opportunity for new circus artists/makers/performers. We are seeking a company to devise and stage a new outdoor contemporary circus show at the Green Man Festival’s Settlement programme from the 15th to the 19th of August 2026.
The Opportunity
We are looking to support an individual or small group who can get creative and develop a new show or an existing idea that may not have been fully developed for outdoor performances.
Show Requirements
Important aspects to consider for an outdoor show for this commission are:
Disciplines: A mixture of strong ground based movement - eg acrobatics, physical theatre and dance, with an emphasis on aerial circus disciplines. No solo shows.
Staging: The stage will have a “Goal Post” aerial rig with a counterweight system for you to use. The commissioned performance will be presented on an outdoor 5m x 5m stage with a 6m x 6m Tomcat Box Truss rig.
Duration & Atmosphere: It would need to be between 35-55 mins duration and will be performed at dusk. Eye catching design features. It will feature a Fire Sculpture (which Citrus Arts will provide & design to relate to the theme of your show concept), as the finale.
Sound: We would expect a strong, coherent sound track to your proposal (no cabaret-style playlists for a roll-call of acts, please). We can accommodate live music and/or spoken word if you have the equipment to link to a PA, and a sound operator if you decide to include these elements.
Technical Support: On site at Green Man Festival Settlement site, you will have a professional technical support team provided so all you need to do is do your technical rehearsals and perform.
Essential Dates & Locations
This commission will only benefit those that can attend all of the dates for R&D and additional development support.
Mid-July (TBC): Up to 2-days in person with the Citrus Arts Mentor team to work on developing your creative proposal into a production timeline / storyboard. We will talk about costumes, set development and the mentorship schedule.
3rd – 8th August 2026: There will be an agreed show creation R&D week. The Citrus mentor team will be on hand to ensure a productive schedule to help you be in your creative element.
Locations: Mentoring days & Research & Development phases will be at Hopkinstown Hall, Foundry Road, Pontypridd, CF37 2RA, Wales. Green Man Festival Settlement programme will be at Glanusk Estate, Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park, Crickhowell, NP8 1LP, Wales.
Note on Accommodation: There is no overnight accommodation available at Citrus Arts’ creation space, but we can provide accommodation for the Lead Artist/s for the 2 days of mentoring & planning, if needed. In certain cases, we may be able to help with accommodation for the creation phase.
